2020 Logistics

Grades 1-6 — Hands-on field based nature and science education. (The activities will be split by age group Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6)

  • Monday – Friday, July 13 – 17, 2020 (Observing Nature)
  • Monday – Friday, July 20 – July 24, 2020 (Citizen Science Investigations)

NEW in 2020 Grades 7 – 9 Scientist-in-Training (SIT) hands-on research at Brandwein Summer Science Program. Participants will spend a portion of each day as a SIT working closely with an experienced group leader and local science experts researching natural phenomena.

  • Monday – Friday, July 13 – 17, 2020 (Research questions, Experiment design)
  • Monday – Friday, July 20 – July 24, 2020 (Data collection, results presentations)

Location: The Summer Science Program will be held at the Brandwein Nature Learning Preserve (BNLP), 400 Minisink Turnpike, Port Jervis, New York. Directions signs will be posted on Minisink Turnpike directing parents to drop off area.

Times: 9AM-3PM daily – Parents are expected to drop off children and pick them up promptly.

Meals and Snacks: Participants are expected to provide their own lunch, beverage and snacks. The Brandwein Institute will provide water.

Incidentals: Participants should bring small back pack, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Cost and Registration: The cost for the five-day science camp is $150.00 for 1 week and $225 for two weeks. The family discount cost for a second child is $125 for one week and $175 two weeks. (Payment by credit card at https://squareup.com/store/Brandwein-Institute).

The final registration is June 21, 2020, at https://waiver.fr/p-e9Wgd. (Minimum number of participants for Grades 1-6 is Science Camp is 10). Registration will be closed at 60 students. For Grades 7-9 (Minimum number of participants for Grades 1-6 is Science Camp is 8). Registration will be closed at 12 students.

Instructors: Nationally-recognized science teachers Kasey Stankunas and Taylor Hartey from Port Jervis, NY School District as well as invited special nature scientist guests daily.
